is Kristol ashamed he was only hired to fill a quota?

In the interests of demagogical diversity, the Times now pays William Kristol money to write about his discrete and insular people:
We don’t want to increase the scope of the nanny state, we don’t want to undo the good done by the appointments of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, and we really don’t want to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory in Iraq.

You can have it, sir! In the past decade, no democrat besides my junior year sociology professor has argued to expand welfare. None of the conservative justices has a better chance at dying in the next four years than I do. And the inverted snatch/jaw metaphor--confuses me. I guess he thinks military victory is a thing which happens naturally, fast, and perhaps unexpectedly; after which defeat is swallowed and converted into energy. Okay, I'll cede that there is a genuine issue between the parties on this one point.

If people like Kristol can't think of anything better to yell about, republicans are going to stay home in November because they have nothing left to win. Seriously, he should just make stuff up. We want to blackmail Justice Kennedy! We want Iranians to speak english! We want to feed the hand that bites us! No, too liberal...
