Although I am a militant lesbian, for a while gay issues had fallen out of my calculations when it came to picking a candidate. Among the top 3 it seemed like a wash. They'd sign hate crime or anit-discrimination bills but not fight for them. They would hug Ellen Degeneres.
But then!
Obama recently ran a series of fundraisers in SC featuring black gospel singers. One of them, Donnie McClurkin, is an ex-gay. He preaches that homosexuality can and should be cured through prayer. When the blogs picked this up, Obama declined to kick off McClurkin. Instead he balanced him out by tacking a gay pastor, Andy Sidden, onto the beginning of the event. Sidden is white.
The HRC had recommended several gay black pastors, but Obama rejected them. Now gay black people are even more pissed off. So why did Obama do that? He bet there were more homophobic black people than gay black people. And for them a black homo would mess with the event's racial pride vibe. Better to associate perversion with white people.
Obama's manipulating racial tensions in order to win the homophobe vote. I'm not writing Obama off because he's anti-gay; I'm doing it because he reminds me of Karl Rove.

I wasn't going to vote for him just because his book was called the Audacity of Hope, and I think that is the worst name for a book that I've ever heard.
