NYT marriage conspiracy watch

The Times reports that young women are out-earning young men. Great! The article--and the interviews, and the data--is all about money and progress and stuff. But the conclusion is about something much more important, if ungrounded.
Several experts also said that rising income for women might affect marriage rates if women expect their mates to have at least equivalent salaries and education.

“When New York college women say there are few eligible men around, they’re right if they mean they’ll only settle for someone with an education akin to their own,” Professor Hacker said.

Twist ending: feminism is bad for marriage (or, "might" be). Also, notes Caroline, the caption they chose was the one quote they had about "starting families." Because that's the salient issue, not equality or financial independence.
