"Women are leaving men in the dust," the Times frets. They study more than guys and get much better grades. Disturbingly, they still make more money than women right of college, so let's think about how strong sexism is in our society.
Oh wait, let's not. The point of the article is that we should worry about men. I guess in addition to giving them more money and power in life, we also want to make sure they're intellectually enriched along the way. It would just be comforting to know they're beating women at every single life stage.
So what's the problem? I would assume that men are naturally inferior at academic work. After all, that's a standard answer to the question of why women don't achieve as much in math and science.
But the closest the article comes to suggesting that is: "what is being seen as a boy problem is actually maleness itself, with the noisy, energetic antsiness and high jinks of young boys now redefined as a behavior problem by teachers who do not know how to handle them." The problem is boys are too energetic, not just poorly behaved. They're into high jinks, which is cute. And it's really all the ignorant teachers' fault.
Who teaches young boys? Women.
